Artist Jane Bristowe’s Book
Author and Artist collabration
Jane enjoys collaborating with other artists, craft makers and publishers, and her artwork appears on many varied products as a result.
Jane’s latest collaboration is a publication with author Florina Falce, and together they have published a book called ‘Dear Elephant’.
Dear Elephant: Letters to Animals nurtures warm feelings towards animals and encourages their conservation, a subject about which Jane is very keen, supporting animal and wildlife charities by working with them to generate income is a major element of her artwork.

Virginia McKenna, OBE, Born Free Foundation reads letter to Dear Elephant
Watch this Video and hear Virginia reading this epistolary book which carries a love message to the natural world at this critical moment.
Jane Bristowe displays her lino cuts in Outlines Gallery and I first came across the book by chance. I was working on Jane’s area in the Gallery and immediately I saw it – I knew I had to have a copy and determined to buy it later.
How did I find it?
I had been doing some online gallery maintenance and was waiting for a process to complete.
I needed some small computer component quickly, and I idly opened Amazon so that I could carry on when I finished.
Dear Elephant just came up the minute I looked at Amazon!
Their software must have registered my association with Jane Bristowe.
The book looked absolutely delightful and, when my work was done, I returned to Amazon and ordered it.
‘Dear Elephant: Letters to Animals‘ is for sale on Amazon UK.
If you live in the United States you can check out ‘Dear Elephant‘ on Amazon US too!
A Generous Endorsement
Printed on the back cover, Virginia McKenna OBE, one of the founders of the charity BornFree Foundation, has endorsed the book with a lovely description of its potential influence.

The Dear Elephant book arrived today – lovely!
It’s arrival from Amazon interrupted my ‘painting in the yard’ but it was hot, and I needed to come in for a while, so it was a welcome break. The book is beautiful, both because of Jane’s animal illustrations and because of Florina’s writing, which is engaging, thought provoking and well-written.
Video slides of some of the pages
The overall design is very good and the colour pages work well on the matt paper. My first thought was that I might have chosen a gloss cover, thinking:
“Sweaty fingers will soon spoil that sophisticated soft matt – let alone a smear of butter or something. It might make some owners reluctant to pass it around – and everyone should read it!“
However I soon changed my mind about the matt cover when I began to read it. The cover is plastic-sealed and resists fingerprints and light soiling. Dear Elephant is a perfectly ‘Sharable‘ book.
I read every word, enjoying the multitude of emotions the book invoked and the beautiful images, created by Jane Bristowe, many of which are available as limited edition Lino cuts right here in Outlines Gallery.
